About Us

Play Tennis Ponteland (P.T.P.) is the new name for a Tennis Coaching Scheme that was established in 1998 by Head Coach Nick Clark. PTP is  based at Ponteland Tennis Club next to the Memorial Hall on Darras Road at which there are 3 floodlit Synthetic Grass courts. Apart from this PTP also uses other facilities such as the 3 Floodlit Acrylic courts at Ponteland Middle School and the Leisure Centre.

Nick is  Fully Licensed and Insured and has attained the L.T.A. Senior Club Coach Award. All the other Coaches and assistant coaches are C.R.B. Checked, Licensed or Registered and Insured. The Club also achieved the Prestigious L.T.A. Clubmark Award which is an industry Kitemark Standard.

At the moment we offer Tennis coaching to players from as young as 4 up to any age. The Mini Tennis section is a real success story and it has developed over the last few years to introduce young players to Tennis through the various levels of Mini Red for the 8 and Under’s, Mini Orange for the 8-9 year olds and the Mini Green for 9-10 year olds.  Mini Tennis is based on progressions and using the appropriate equipment from the size of court, rackets and low compression balls the allow the players to comfortably hit a ball at the correct height in relation to their physical size.

There is now a full mini tennis competition structure which is very rigidly monitored which has reduced time scale matches for each level to make it fun but not too excessive.

After Mini Tennis players move on to the Full ball game and again there is a wide range of competition formats from Box Leagues, Open Tournaments (Ponteland Junior Open in July) , Ratings events plus a few fun events at the Club such as Little and Large events and Timed Tournaments. The Tennis Club also has league teams and teams are entered into the Aegon National Club League as well as the Northumberland and Durham leagues.

Apart from the Playing and Competitive aspects we also provide free coaching in schools and we also have a coach education programme which can help young players from the age of 14 develop into Tennis Leaders and then onto their various coaching awards.

Head Coach Nick Clark has over 35 years of playing and coaching experience behind him and is able to offer free and friendly advice about all aspects of  tennis from Playing to Equipment and even offers a Racket Restringing and Repair Service.
